Factors To Consider When Purchasing the Perfect Cashmere Jumper

By | Last Updated: 4 August 2022

We’re often told about the versatility of a cashmere jumper. Its insulation and breathable properties are like no other, however, it's a given that not every jumper suits all.

As we find with online markets - and by this we mean the pioneers of fast fashion - an outfit can look good on a model but the moment it appears on your doorstep, it can be a disaster waiting to happen.

For those that don’t have the time or quite frankly, dislike visiting stores in person, the online market is something that’s heavily relied on. However, when faced with an outfit that doesn’t look good, the process of returning somewhat becomes a gruelling task.

Of course, some brands have taken great steps to ensure the fit of any garment is just right. A lifesaver for many, apps have been developed to help match the desired product to your body type, but if you’re not a techy person, then this isn’t very beneficial. So, how can you make sure that what you see online will suit you in person?

Colour tones

If you’re looking for a bold-toned cashmere jumper, don’t choose an item based on your favourite colour. Instead, pick a colour which is going to compliment your skin tone, eyes and hair colour.

Depending on the brand you’re purchasing from, dyed cashmere jumpers are often known to be vibrant and if you’re looking to invest in Class A, then that colour will not drain in the wash. This is due to its fine fibres.

If your skin has warm undertones, then pink, orange or yellow colours will suit you best. For cooler undertones, try either charcoal, blue or purple. Keep in mind that some colours may wash out your complexion, so for a safer option, try purchasing a pastel shade cashmere jumper.

Type of knit

Before purchasing a cashmere jumper, know your body type. Depending on the shape of your body, some knits can either elevate or diminish your look.

For example, a chunky knit is great for an hourglass figure, however, if your body resembles a pear-shaped frame, then it’s advised to avoid this type of knitwear unless the chunky knit is worn on the upper half of your body.

For those with boxy bodies, rib knitted jumpers often contain vertical lines which can help elongate the look of your body and outline your curves.

Neckline

The choice of your neckline is mainly due to personal preference. If you’re not a fan of high-neck cashmere jumpers, then opt for a crew neck design. However, not all crew necks are flattering.

If you have wide shoulders, then a cowl or narrow v-neck design can flatter your figure and facial features. For those with longer necks or oval-shaped faces, crew neck jumpers can be most complementary.

The main things to consider

Although investing in a cashmere jumper is worth it, purchasing an unflattering design is a costly mistake to make.

Before purchasing a cashmere jumper, rather than take in its pros and cons, consider the entirety of the product. Think back to those online shopping disasters. Although the appearance can look absolutely fabulous at times, always remember that the same product doesn’t flatter everyone.

Truth be told, there are a number of factors which influence the way a particular product looks. Regardless of body shapes and heights, additional features such as necklines and colours can drastically alter the appearance of your outfit. Always evaluate its pattern and neckline. Is it flattering for your figure/face shape? The same goes for its colour. Rather than opt for your favourite colour, choose a jumper that compliments your complexion.

If you don’t know what works for you, look at the model on the screen. Can you tell if her body shape is similar to yours? Does she have wide shoulders? Dark skin? Although this isn’t the most reliable source, it can help make quick decisions if you’re not one for researching.

Last but not least, pick a brand that’s transparent. Lengthy product descriptions and ‘About Us’ sections give us a bit of an indication if the product is right for us. Nonetheless, if this doesn’t help, try searching through their blogs or even better, test their customer service skills. Drop an email with your worries and see what they respond with.
